Generosity Petal Meeting

Today the Little Flowers gathered in the dining hall for a petal meeting and service project. We collected food and personal items to deliver to St. Patrick's Center and baked casseroles for the center to serve hot as well. We wore the aprons we made last year for the Industry petal meeting.

We learned about the patron of bakers, St. Elizabeth of Hungary (1207-1231). She was a happily married noble lady who was known for her generosity to the poor. Once she had baked many loaves of bread to give away in secret. When asked to show what was hidden in her cloak, the bread miraculously turned into roses. Her feast day is November 17.

We learned about the virtue of Generosity. Generosity inspires gratitude and gratitude inspires generosity. Everything we are and have comes from God. We are to be as generous with others as God is to us. We can be generous with our things, but also with our talents, our time, and our attitude. We were given secret missions to practice being more generous. We role played stories from the bible that taught us about this virtue like the widow with the two coins, the good Samaritan, and the tax collector and the Pharisee. We contemplated the verse, It is more blessed to give than to receive. -Acts 20:35

Saint Katherine Drexel lived out the virtue of generosity. She was born in Philadelphia to a wealthy, devout, and generous family. She first became a missionary to the native people in the west and then began her own order of the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament. She founded 63 schools and 55 missions, including the first boarding mission school and the first University for black students. She lived from 1858-1955. Her feast day is March 3. She is the patron saint of racial justice.

We learned the daisy is a symbol of the innocence of the Christ Child. We earned our Generosity petal and our St. Elizabeth Baking badge.

May God Bless us and help us grow in the virtue of Generosity.
