February Petal Meeting

 Wreath 3: Lesson 6

Virtue: Friendliness Saint: Ruth and Naomi  Flower: Morning Glory

Verse: Faithful friends are a sturdy shelter; whoever finds one finds a treasure. -Sirach 6:14

Naomi was an Israelite in the Old Testament who moved with her husband to Moab. Their sons married women from the new land. Naomi’s husband and sons all died leaving Naomi and her two daughter’s -in-law, Ruth and Orpah widows. Naomi told the girls to go back to their families which would leave her with no one to care for her and away from her people. Instead, Ruth stayed with Naomi and converted to the Jewish faith. “I will go where you will go. Your people shall be my people and your God, my God,” Ruth promised. Ruth remarried and became the mother of David, Jesus’s ancestor.

Friendliness is like cheerfulness. Friendship is mutual and based on some similarity. True friends value the good of the other. Friendship is without motive or selfishness. Friends share, are respectful of each other, and do kind things for each other. Jesus wishes to be our very best friend. The girls had a great time getting to know the new friends that joined us for our petal meeting. They practiced having meaningful conversations and listening well to one another. They played games, exercised on the playground, and had time just to hang out and enjoy friends.

The girls used their knowledge and keen observation skills to guess the baby pictures with impressive accuracy.

The Morning Glory clings to a fence for support. The blooms open and close each day to the sun, giving glory. Without the fence, the flowers would not grow. The flowers adorn the fence and make it beautiful.

Ruth and Naomi, pray for us and help us to grow in the virtue of friendliness.

Thank you to our youth leaders for planning and executing such a fun day. Our next youth leadership planning event is cancelled so that we can volunteer at the fish fry, March 3. We have new Little Flower aprons that will be available in a basket when you come to work. Be sure to leave them in the red dirty clothes bag when finished.

We look forward to our next events: Daffodil show, Self-Control pizza party petal meeting where we'll stuff Easter Eggs for Manor Grove, and of course, Fish Fry pizza sales and table bussing!
