March Petal Meeting and Fish Fries

Wreath 3: Lesson 7

Virtue: Self Control Saint: Felicity  Flower: Amaryllis

Verse: Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. -Galatians 6:9

St Felicity was a Roman noble woman during the second century, Felicity lived the Christian faith in works of charity and prayer. Her example led others to convert to the faith angering the pagan priests who complained to the emperor.

Felicity was arrested and refused to make sacrifices to false gods. She was told her seven sons would be killed if they all refused to worship the idols. She stayed firm in her faith and said, "my sons will live forever, if like me, the scorn the idols and die for their God." She was forced to watch as each of her sons were killed and then a few months later, she too was killed.

Images of St. Felicity often show her surrounded by the faces of her seven sons. Felicity is a patron to those watching their loved ones suffer and an inspiration of holding fast to God in the face of great loss. Her feast day is celebrated July 10.

Self Control is knowing how to keep correct order in your soul and not doing something you really want to do, like eat the candy we’ve been given to fill Easter Eggs for others! It can be hard to keep control of our feelings, our actions, and our appetites. We also need self control in choosing how we spend our time each day. Lenten fasts are a great way to exercise the virtue of self control.

Amaryllis is a flowering bulb often given at the holidays. The name means “to sparkle.”

We filled Easter Eggs with candy and coins for Manor Grove's egg hunt and we didn't eat any of the candy. We also played a game where we took turns being silly and tried to make the others laugh or smile. We learned that we can practice self control and grow in this virtue! We celebrated with a pizza party provided for us by the retirement home.

We introduced the end of the year badge we will earn at our reception, the Eucharistic Adoration badge. Each girl needs to spend a total of 3 hours in adoration. Many are already half way done! We earned 30 minutes during our field trip to St Agnes Home in December, 30 minutes at the overnight in Ursuline Hall in January, and 30 minutes at our March petal meeting. Keep track of your time with Jesus and turn it in when complete.

End of Year Adoration Badge

Jesus loves for us to spend time with Him in Eucharistic Adoration. Make a visit with Him either at our own chapel or another of your choosing. To earn the End of the Year adoration badge, Little Flowers are invited to make three holy hours (can be divided into smaller times).

Some options of things to do during a holy hour

  1. Gaze at Jesus and be still, letting Him speak to your heart. Ask Jesus’ help to keep still in your body and mind.
  2. Write your prayers in a journal
  3. Thank Jesus for all your blessings
  4. Apologize to Jesus for your sins
  5. Praise Jesus for His goodness
  6. Ask Jesus for help for yourself or others
  7. Pray a rosary or chaplet
  8. Read a Catholic book
  9. Say prayers you know by heart or prayers from your heart
  10. Ask Jesus how He’d like you to spend your time together

Little Flowers have done an amazing job of serving at the fish fries this Lent. They sell pizza and bus tables. We have one last opportunity on Friday to serve.

St Felicity, Pray for us and help us grow in the virtue of self control.
